UNLV was ranked as one of the best universities in the nation for veterans, according to The Military Times.

The Military Times rankings, formerly known as Best for Vets, are based on a survey of the veteran support services, special rules, accommodations, and financial incentives offered to students with military ties. The survey also considers data from the Veterans Affairs and Defense Departments. UNLV ranked 62 among four-year institutions, with more than 600 colleges participating in the survey.

Ross D. Bryant, who is the director of UNLV’s Military & Veteran Services and a retired U.S. Army officer, said “UNLV places tremendous importance on educating our military veterans and understanding the sacrifices these men and women have made for our nation.”

“I’m very proud of this ranking. It shows that the many hours we have worked to make UNLV a welcome home for our military and our veterans has paid off,” Bryant said.

The rankings are in their eighth year and include a comprehensive “school-by- school assessment of veteran and military student services and rates of academic achievement,” according to the Military Times.

Established in 2012 as the Office of Veteran Services, the UNLV Military & Veteran Services Center (MVSC) serves more than 1,800 active-duty, reserve or veteran students on campus. Most have received tuition benefits from the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill. From tuition assistance and campus training to on-site Veterans Administration support and specialized recruitment, UNLV is increasing its services for veterans, with the recent hiring of a MVSC Outreach Coordinator, responsible for the veteran peer-to-peer advising program.

UNLV is recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a VetSuccess campus and designated a military friendly school by G.I. Jobs Magazine for the seventh consecutive year. UNLV has also re-engaged with Nellis Air Force Base and offers on-base advising and courses for active-duty military.

This fall, the university launched the Rebel Veterans Alumni Club, which offers current and former student veterans an opportunity to network with one another and learn about opportunities available to veterans in Southern Nevada.
