The Citizens Health Care Working Group (CHCWG), a congressionally mandated group, is hosting a meeting to hear public opinion about health care reform on Tuesday, April 11 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Nevada Partners, 710 W. Lake Mead Blvd. in North Las Vegas. The group has been charged with gathering citizen input for the purpose of shaping health care policy in this country. To accomplish this task, the CHCWG is holding a series of community meetings around the country.
Two UNLV professors, Christopher Cochran and Charles Moseley, associate professors in the Department of Health Care Administration and Policy, have joined with the CHCWG to spread the word and answer questions about local health care. "As academic faculty who teach health care system and policy courses, Dr. Cochran and myself are acutely aware of the major health care issues that we currently face in this country," said Moseley, who also serves as the department chair. "We are confronted with care access, care costs, and quality of care problems that affect all of us. Citizen input is critical if we are going to solve these complex problems." Moseley and Cochran said the CHCWG community meeting represents an opportunity for citizens to get directly involved in the health care policy making process.
The meeting is free and open to the public. However, registration is required. To register, please visit <a href=" or call 895-5410. The meeting will be hosted by Clark County, the Great Basin Primary Care Association, University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union Welfare Fund, and UNLV Department of Health Care Administration & Policy, School of Public Health.
