The PCMA Education Foundation recently announced Patti Shock, a professor and department chair of the tourism and convention administration department at the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at the Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» (UNLV), as its 2005 Faculty Honoree. She is being recognized for her exemplary contributions to the meetings industry and leadership role within the industry. Shock will receive this honor at the 2005 PCMA Education Foundation Dinner Celebrating Professional Achievement on May 25 at the Hilton Washington in Washington D.C.
"Patti Shock's distinguished contributions have made a lasting impact on PCMA and the industry," said Sheila Stampfli, 2005 chairman of the PCMA Education Foundation. "She was the ideal choice for our first Faculty Honoree."
Shock is the faculty advisor for the UNLV student chapter of PCMA, she chairs the PCMA Faculty Task Force, and she is an author and frequent speaker at industry meetings, including the 2005 PCMA Annual Meeting.
Shock has received numerous honors and accolades, including the 1996 PCMA Educator of the Year award. She currently teaches catering online, and also produces the Las Vegas International Hospitality and Convention Summit each June in Las Vegas, which is an academic conference that provides faculty an outlet to present their research.
She co-authored the texts, "Hotel Catering: A Handbook for Sales and Operations," "A Club Manager's Guide to Private Parties and Club Functions," "On-Premise Catering" and "Restaurant Marketing for Owners and Managers," all published by Wiley.
Shock holds the Certified Professional Catering Executive (CPCE) designation from the National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) and has served on the board of the Foundation of NACE. She is on the advisory board for CaterSource and also serves on the International Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus Educator Think Tank and the International Association of Assembly Managers Research Task Force.
Prior to joining the faculty at UNLV in 1998, Shock chaired the hotel, restaurant & travel administration department at Georgia State University in Atlanta.
