UNLV President Carol C. Harter has been named one of the "Most Influential Business Women in Southern Nevada" by In Business Las Vegas.
Harter, who has served as president of the Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³», since 1995, was one of 41 women selected for the honor by the business publication.
In addition to her recognition by the business publication, Harter recently was appointed to the board of directors of NTS Development Corporation, an entity charged with commercializing the unique Nevada resource known as the Test Site. In the past, the Nevada Test Site was used only as a laboratory for the nation's nuclear weapons program, but currently it is being transformed into a site for high-tech businesses as well.
In Business Las Vegas judged potential honorees on their business achievements, civic involvement, and charitable involvement.
In its description of Harter's achievements, the publication stated, "She has been recognized for both her strategic planning process for the long-term goals of the university and her involvement with the university's athletic departments. Dr. Harter has served as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association board of directors and has been hailed for her efforts to diversify the university's faculty by hiring more women for upper management positions.
"Dr. Harter has devoted time to several business and community organizations, including the Nevada Development Authority, Nevada Testing Institute, the Council of International Education Exchange, and the Nevada Ballet Theatre."
