The UNLV Performing Arts Center welcomes Grammy Award-winning virtuoso violinist and conductor Joshua Bell, one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful in the year 2000, at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22 as part of the Charles Vanda Master Series. Bell fronts the incomparable Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, a British institution. The program includes Brahms' String Quintet No. 2 and Vivaldi's The Four Seasons.
Bell was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame in June 2005. An exclusive Sony Classical artist who has created a large and richly varied catalogue of recordings, Bell swept Billboard Magazine's 2004 honors as "Classical Artist of the Year" with the "Classical Album of the Year" - the best-selling Romance of the Violin, a collection of classical favorites.
For over two decades, Joshua Bell has been captivating audiences worldwide with his poetic musicality. He came to national attention at the age of 14 in a highly acclaimed orchestral debut with Riccardo Muti and the Philadelphia Orchestra. A Carnegie Hall debut, the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, and a recording contract further confirmed his unique presence in the music world. Equally at home as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra leader, Bell's career is exceptionally varied. Now in his thirties, he continues to perform regularly with the world's leading symphony orchestras and conductors.
Tickets to Joshua Bell are $50, $65, and $95 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting pac.unlv.edu. Student rush tickets are $13.50 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. A $1 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Information about all of the season's performances can be found on the Performing Arts Center website, located at pac.unlv.edu.
