The UNLV Performing Arts Center Season Finale welcomes 10-time Grammy Award winner Bobby McFerrin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17. No mere singer, McFerrin is music's last true Renaissance Man - a vocal explorer who has combined jazz, folk, choral, acapella, and classical music with his own special ingredients. In this solo performance, McFerrin treats the audience to his four-octave range and a vast array of vocal techniques.
McFerrin, a renowned classical conductor and the creator of one of the most popular songs of the late 20 th century, is a passionate spokesman for music education. His recordings have sold more than 20 million copies, and his collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma, Chick Corea, the Vienna Philharmonic, and Herbie Hancock have established him as an ambassador of both the classical and jazz worlds. Yet McFerrin's reach extends well beyond musical circles: he's worked with actor Jack Nicholson, comedians Robin Williams and Billy Crystal, the Muppets, and dance phenomenon Savion Glover.
Tickets to Bobby McFerrin are $40, $55, and $85 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting UNLVTickets.com. Student rush tickets are $12.50 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. A $.50 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Information about all of the season's performances can be found on the Performing Arts Center website.
Founded in 1976, the Performing Arts Center at UNLV continues to be Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue. UNLV and KLVX Channel 10 are graciously sponsoring the 2004-2005 Season, "Stars at the Center."
