The is proud to present the at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 12 as part of the Charles Vanda Master Series. Pianist Evgeni Mikhailov joins the Opole, Philharmonic of Poland in a program that includes Paderewski's Piano Concerto in A minor and Beethoven's immortal Symphony No. 5.
Hailed by critics for his "incontestable musical talent and musicality" (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Germany), "refinement of his sound" (Piano, Great Britain) and "passion, sincerity and lyricism" (Culture, Russia), Mikhailov has performed more than 400 concerts around the world. He has appeared at such prestigious venues as the Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles, Steinway Hall in New York, St. Martin in the Fields in London, Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Concert Hall "G. Verdi" in Milan, Salle Cortot in Paris, and City Hall in Hong Kong. He is also a regular guest at many international festivals including Berlin-Moscau, the Lucerne International Music Festival, and the Bergen (Norway) International Festival.
Founded in 1947, Opole, Philharmonic of Poland became the resident orchestra of Opole. It has performed with outstanding piano, violin, and vocal soloists from around the world. Since 1960, the orchestra has participated regularly in prestigious Polish cultural events such as the Festival of Contemporary Music in Wroclaw, the Chopin Festival in Duszniki, the Moniuszko Festival in Kudowa-Zdr?j, Poznan Musical Spring, and the International Festival of Oratorio and Cantata Music in Wroclaw. Since 1973, the Opole, Philharmonic of Poland has annually appeared as resident Orchestra of the Opole Days of Oratorio Music Festival.
Tickets to Opole, Philharmonic of Poland are $35, $50 and $70 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting . Student rush tickets are $13 and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. A $1.25 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Founded in 1976, the continues to be Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue. Located on the north end of the UNLV campus, the PAC hosts a variety of performances each year in three distinct series - the Charles Vanda Master Series, the New York Stage & Beyond Series, and the UNLV Classical Guitar Series.
