Las Vegas - November 3, 2009 - The UNLV Performing Arts Center Classical Guitar Series welcomes William Kanengiser at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18 in the Doc Rando Recital Hall of the Beam Music Center. Praised for his "exceeding vitality and warmth" and "dizzying execution" (Los Angeles Times), Kanengiser is recognized as one of America's more brilliant guitarists and has developed a unique repertoire, including arrangements of Mozart, Handel, and Bartok.
Through unusual commissions and a creative approach to transcription, Kanengiser has won recognition for expanding the repertory beyond the staples of guitar literature. He has performed and recorded works written for him by composers as diverse as Dusan Bogdanovich, Ian Krouse, and Brian Head, and has won consistent praise for his own transcriptions of scores from the traditional repertory, most notably Mozart's Piano Sonata in A major (featuring the "Rondo Alla Turka"), which he prepared for the Columbia Pictures release, Crossroads, in which he was Ralph Macchio's guitar double and coach.
Tickets to William Kanengiser are $35 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting pac.unlv.edu. Student rush tickets are $13 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. A $1.25 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Information about all of the season's performances can be found on the Performing Arts Center website, located at pac.unlv.edu.
