The UNLV Performing Arts Center opens its Classical Guitar Series at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20 with Carlos Barbosa-Lima, acclaimed as one of the leading guitar masters.
A native of Brazil, Barbosa-Lima began studying the guitar when he was seven. Among his teachers were the influential Brazilian guitarist Isaias Savio and Andres Segovia. While still a child, he was performing in public and he made his recording debut when he was just 12. He first toured the U.S. in 1967 and during 1971-72 Barbosa-Lima performed in London and New York, gaining a worldwide reputation. In the early 90s, Barbosa-Lima performed frequently and recorded with Charlie Byrd and his quintet.
The UNLV Classical Guitar Series continues with Duo Siqueira-Lima on November 6.
Tickets to Carlos Barbosa-Lima are $37.50 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting . Student rush tickets are $13 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. A $1.25 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Founded in 1976, the Performing Arts Center at UNLV continues to be Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue.
