The Performing Arts Center at UNLV, Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue for more than 30 years, has announced its 2006-2007 season.
Mandy Patinkin - warm, passionate, and funny - will open the season as part of the New York Stage & Beyond series on September 16. Tony and Emmy Award-winning Patinkin will perform the music and lyrics of Rodgers and Hart, Stephen Sondheim, Harry Chapin, Irving Berlin, and Cole Porter.
The New York Stage & Beyond series also offers the Bayanihan Philippine National Dance Company on October 3; Hello Jerry!: Celebrating the Music and Lyrics of Jerry Herman on October 21; Grammy and Pulitzer-prize winning jazz musician Wynton Marsalis on November 1; the incomparable and award-winning Manhattan Transfer December 2; the hilarious Forbidden Broadway (25th Anniversary Celebration) February 24; and the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, described as "a breath of fresh air" by The New York Times, March 30.
The Charles Vanda Master Series, the gold standard in Southern Nevada classical programming since 1976, opens its series with I Musici (The Musicians) on October 18 (the date of the opening of the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall in 1976). The Boston Globe called I Musici's ensemble performance "lyrical sweetness."
The Vanda Master Series continues with the one of the world's greatest orchestras, The Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, November 4; the acclaimed Hungarian State Folk Ensemble January 18; Lorin Maazel, music director of the New York Philharmonic, conducting the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini January 27; a special Valentine's Day event as the Moscow Festival Ballet performs Swan Lake February 14; violinist Sarah Chang with the UNLV Symphony Orchestra on March 2; and one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful in the year 2000, virtuoso violinist and conductor Joshua Bell, with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, March 22.
The UNLV Classical Guitar Series begins October 24 and features Brazilian Carlos Barbosa-Lima, widely recognized for his extraordinary skills as a transcriber and arranger of a wide range of music for the guitar, including the works Scarlatti, Debussy, Gershwin, and Cole Porter.
Continuing the series is Ricardo Cobo, one of the world's supreme virtuosi of the new classic guitar generation, November 21; Grammy Award-winning guitarist Sharon Isbin March 9; and Brazilian-born brothers S?rgio and Odair Assad, today's preeminent guitar duo, April 29.
The pure soul gospel sounds of The Blind Boys of Alabama will conclude the UNLV Performing Arts Center season with a breathtaking finale May 19. Formed in 1939 at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind, the group starred in the Obie-winning musical, The Gospel at Colonus.

Founded in 1976, the Performing Arts Center at UNLV continues to be Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue.
