The Jean Nidetch Women's Center at UNLV will participate in the upcoming Take Back the Night event on Friday, April 28, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. on the West Charleston campus of the Community College of Southern Nevada, located at the corner of West Charleston and Torrey Pines.
Take Back the Night is a worldwide annual event dedicated to stopping all forms of violence against women. After being shouted throughout Europe, the event's tag line, "No more violence, no more victims," was heard for the first time in the United States in 1977. Since, it has grown into a national action signifying the continuing battle against sex-based degradation and violence.
This year's event is being sponsored by The Rape Crisis Center of Nevada, as well as a number of other local organizations. Take Back the Night will include a peace rally and march against violence, interactive learning activities for the whole family, information tables and poetry readings. A fundraising raffle will also be held for prizes.
