LAS VEGAS - March 24, 2010 - UNLV Opera Theatre presents "An Evening of Opera Scenes" at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 in the Doc Rando Recital Hall of the Beam Music Center. Excerpts from classic to modern and lesser-known masterpieces will be performed. Students of the Advanced Opera Workshop will sing scenes, which span the musical genius from Mozart to Massenet, from Bellini to Puccini, and others. Valerie Ore will provide accompaniment at the piano.
Directing the program is Luana DeVol, who has recently joined UNLV's voice faculty, and is Las Vegas' own, internationally renowned opera diva. DeVol has appeared in the grand opera houses all over the World, which range from the traditional to the exotic, such The Met, San Francisco Opera, Vienna, Berlin, Buenos Aires and most recently Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Her next engagement will be with the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch, Germany, as the Dyer's Wife, in Strauss' opera, Die Frau ohne Schatten, this coming June. She has resided in Henderson since 1996.
Opera Workshop and Opera Production are the two groups, which comprise UNLV Opera Theatre. The Opera Production recently presented Mozart's MAGIC FLUTE, conducted by Taras Krysa, with guest director Dawn Harris. The opera performed to record numbers and included assistance by UNLV's Theatre and Dance Departments.
