UNLV Opera, in collaboration with Nevada Conservatory Theatre, is proud to present Haydn's The Songstress and Mozart's The Impresario at 7:30 p.m. March 10-11 and at 2 p.m. March 12 in the Judy Bayley Theatre.
Stage director Linda Lister and music director/conductor Darryl Cooper helm the production. The Songstress is sung in Italian with English supertitles; The Impresario is sung in German with new English dialogue by Lister.
In Haydn's The Songstress, imagine Dance Moms set in the 18th century. Pushy stage mother Apollonia and her diva daughter Gasparina try to outsmart and swindle the colorful music master Don Pelagio. Amanda Māra Rizzotto and Kourtney Holmes are the young songstress Gasparina, while Giada Barney Sink and Haylee Glenn play her manipulative mother Apollonia. Matthew Sink and Michael TK Lam portray her voice teacher Don Pelagio, with Ana Elisa Portes and Andreea Cretu playing the pants role of her young suitor Don Ettore.
In Mozart's The Impresario, visionary female director Frankie is casting a new opera about Mozart's sister titled Nannerl; an established diva and an aspiring ingénue fight for the title role. Courtney Schwalbe is Frankie, Chase Gutierrez is Frankie’s buffo assistant Buff, and Christian Shelton is flamboyant conductor Vogelsang. The dueling divas Madame Herz and Mademoiselle Silberklang are sung by Christina Mancheni, Arianna Perroots, Claudia Affan, and Isabel Ferguson.
Tickets are $25. Discounts are available for seniors, military members, and UNLV Faculty and Staff. All students may receive one $5 ticket with valid student ID.
