UNLV's William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration today officially unveiled the university's first international campus during a grand opening celebration in Singapore.
Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Singapore's Minister for Manpower, joined Patricia L. Herbold, US Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore, and UNLV President David B. Ashley in officially unveiling the 12,000 square-foot UNLV Singapore campus. In addition to a ribbon cutting ceremony and tours of the new facilities, the grand opening also featured a traditional Singaporean lion dance. Others in attendance included Stavros Anthony, Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents; Stuart Mann, Dean of UNLV's William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration; and Andy Nazarechuk, Dean of UNLV Singapore.
"Today, with the opening of our first international campus in Singapore, we look forward to playing a significant role in bringing a world class hospitality education closer to students in Singapore and Asia," said Nazarechuk. "UNLV Singapore Campus is designed to feature the latest technology in hospitality education to provide our students with an innovative student learning environment."
UNLV President David Ashley considers Singapore an ideal setting for the college's first international campus. "Singapore is thriving, and support for tourism there is second to none. UNLV students should really blossom in that environment."
The UNLV Singapore campus is housed on the 10th and 11th floors of the National Library of Singapore, a prestigious building comparable to the United States Library of Congress. The campus will offer bachelor's degree programs in hotel administration and hospitality management. UNLV Singapore is offering the college's upper division courses, which include Hotel Administration, Hospitality Marketing, Food & Beverage Management and Hotel Law. Students may also earn an executive master's degree in hospitality.
