UNLV Music presents an evening of beautiful new melodies for the oboe during "Mozart in the Neon Jungle" at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, in the Doc Rando Recital Hall of the Beam Music Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
The performance is a celebration of a $7,000 Artist Fellowship Project Grant awarded to UNLV music professor Stephen Caplan by the Nevada Arts Council. As part of the work, he is making video recordings of the music performed during this recital, which includes a premier by Chicago-based composer Philip Orem. In addition, the final work performed was written specifically for Caplan by composer Daron Aric Hagen, who will be in attendance. Other composers featured include David Ward-Steinman and Leon Stein.
Joining Caplan are Christina Wright-Ivanova, piano; and De Ann Letourneau, James Harvey, Hanna Suk, and Andrew Smith, string quartet.
This concert is made possible with the generous support of the Nevada Arts Council.
