UNLV Rebel Roundtable: Remembering 9/11 - First Responders Tell Their Story
- When: Wed., Sept. 7, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Where: UNLV Student Union, second floor
- Details: UNLV Assistant Chief of Police Sandy Seda and Officer Paul Velez will discuss their experiences as first responders on 9/11 in New York City.
Free and open to the public. Sponsored by UNLV Police Services.
Remembrance Display
- When: Thursday, Sept. 8, all day
- Where: UNLV, north end of the academic mall
- Details: An outdoor display of 120 U.S. flags and 13 international flags. Each U.S. flag represents 25 individuals whose lives were lost in the attacks. The international flags represent their country of origin and the far-reaching impact of the attacks on the world.
Free and open to the public. Sponsored by CSUN.
Remembrance Ceremony
- When: Thursday, Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
- Where: Veterans Memorial near the flashlight of Artemus Ham Hall at UNLV
- Details: This wreath laying ceremony will honor the lives lost during 9/11 and recognize veterans and men and women in military service.
Free and open to the public. Sponsored by CSUN, Rebel Veteran Education & Transition Services (VETS) and the UNLV Student Veterans Organization.
Blood Drive
- When: Thursday, Sept. 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Where: UNLV, Alumni Walk near Lied Library and the Classroom Building Complex
- Details: The UNLV Student Recreation and Wellness Center is sponsoring a blood drive in remembrance of 9/11. Blood donors must be 17 or older.
Free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
Panel: 9/11, 10 Years and Counting
- When: Thursday, Sept. 8 from 4 to 5 p.m.
- Where: UNLV Foundations Building, off Cottage Grove Avenue and Maryland Parkway
- Details: Panelists will discuss how 9/11 affected the nation, world and the war against global terrorism. Speakers will address how civil liberties were impacted and how our community can remain vigilant. Panelists include Major Ross Bryant, deputy director of the UNLV Institute for Security Studies; Allen Lichtenstein, general counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada; Tom Monahan, lieutenant for Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department; Joe Sorge, president of the UNLV Student Veterans Organization.

9/11 Sculpture Dedication at Lied Library
- When: Friday, Sept. 9 between 4 and 6 p.m.
- Where: UNLV Lied Library, off of Harmon Avenue and Swenson Street
- Details: The Lied Library and alumnus Troy Gillett will dedicate "Common Thread," a sculpture that honors the victims of 9/11. The sculpture incorporates T-shirts marked with messages of support and grief by thousands of people who brought the T-shirts to the New York-New York Hotel Casino in Las Vegas days after the attacks. UNLV Libraries Special Collection has more than 5,000 of the T-shirts.
Free and open to the public. The sculpture and accompanying memorial exhibit will be on display through February 2012.
