Finding ways to produce energy from the earth's natural resources will be the focus of Energy Week at UNLV. The National Clean Energy Summit on Aug. 18 kicks off the week, which will feature notable experts specializing in clean energy initiatives and policymaking. The events will shed light on our nation's most pressing energy challenges and what we can do to move toward a more sustainable environment. The following is a list of Energy Week events. National Clean Energy Summit Opening Session
Date/Time: Monday, Aug. 18, 5 p.m. This is not open to the public.
Location: Cox Pavilion
Description: Former President Bill Clinton begins Energy Week with remarks on clean energy during an opening session moderated by John Podesta of the Center for American Progress Action Fund.
National Clean Energy Summit
Date/Time: Tuesday, Aug. 19, 9 a.m.
Location: Cox Pavilion
Description: This one-day event brings together industry leaders, scientists, policy experts, politicians and citizens who will discuss ways to help chart a course for a clean energy future for the nation. U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, former President Bill Clinton, John Podesta, and T. Boone Pickens are among guests scheduled to attend.
Renewable Energy Symposium
Date/Time: Wednesday, Aug. 20, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Location: Stan Fulton Building at UNLV, located off Flamingo Road and Swenson Street
Description: Presented by UNLV's Office of Strategic Energy Programs and the Division of Research and Graduate Studies, this free symposium will focus on renewable energy production in Nevada, the Southwest and across the nation.
Presenters will discuss sustainability and renewable energy generation; solar-thermal power potential; bio-energy, micro-algae and new energy technologies; fuel cell and hydrogen storage technologies; and more.
Hydrogen Road Tour Stop in Las Vegas at the Renewable Hydrogen Filling Station
Date/Time: Thursday, Aug. 21 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. This is not open to the public.
Location: Las Vegas Valley Water District, 1001 S. Valley View Blvd.
Description: Hosted by the Las Vegas Valley Water District, the Hydrogen Road Tour is a cross country series of demonstration events sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Transportation and a host of state, local and private partners designed to show elected leaders, dignitaries and the media progress toward commercially viable hydrogen vehicles and the technology that makes them possible.
