"Be A Rebel," the award-winning UNLV marketing campaign designed to attract additional top-quality students to campus, will begin its second phase later this month with a series of newspaper and television ads featuring UNLV alumni.
The kick-off of the new campaign, which also will include radio ads and billboards, was announced Thursday at a news conference.
"Last year's `Be A Rebel' campaign was a tremendous success," said UNLV President Carol C. Harter. "Following the campaign we saw an increase in the number of people requesting admission information about UNLV. That growing interest in our university is exactly what we were hoping to achieve."
Ads for the new campaign feature seven UNLV alumni. They are critical care nurse Curtis Boardman; Dr. Randal Colquitt, an anesthesiologist; middle school principal Andre Denson; Dr. Mark Doubrava, an eye surgeon; researcher Harvey Mann; Dr. John Martin, an obstetrician; and Maria Thomas, a crime scene analyst with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The campaign was developed by Thomas Puckett Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations, Inc. in conjunction with UNLV's department of marketing and community relations, as was last year's campaign.
The 1998 campaign, which featured UNLV professors, captured the "best of show" award, the highest honor given at the 14th Annual Admissions Advertising Awards competition in February. At the same time, the campaign also won a gold medal in the newspaper advertising/series category, silver medals in the outdoor transit/billboard and total advertising campaign categories, and a bronze medal in the television advertising/series competition. The competition, sponsored by the Atlanta-based Admissions Marketing Report, drew entries from several hundred universities across the United States and Canada.
