UNLV Jazz Ensemble I, conducted by Dave Loeb, and the UNLV Latin Jazz Ensemble, directed by Uli Geissendoerfer, perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, in Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall, celebrating the release of their latest CD, Passersby/Latin Journey V. The UNLV Honors Jazz Trio also will perform.
UNLV Jazz Ensemble I and the Honors Jazz Trio received prestigious 2019 DownBeat Magazine Student Music Awards for Outstanding Performance in the Graduate College Large Ensemble and Undergraduate College Small Group categories, respectively. They competed against some of the top university jazz groups in the nation to receive these honors. Since 2010, UNLV Jazz studies students have garnered 20 DownBeat Magazine Student Music Awards, considered among the highest recognition in jazz education worldwide.
