UNLV's International Gaming Institute (IGI) will host a series of seminars on casino auditing in Las Vegas and other U.S. cities this spring and summer.
Two levels of casino auditing seminars will be offered, both of which will be beneficial for gaming regulators, commissioners, senior officials with regulatory policy-making responsibilities, and internal auditors and independent accountants.
Topics to be covered during the two-day level one seminar will include the following: management's responsibility to internal control; internal audit and the regulatory process; currency transaction reporting; minimum internal control standards; and the system of internal control; casino cage, slots, and table games; analyzing casino operations; and casino fraud.
The level one seminars will be held at UNLV on March 4-5 and June 10-11; in Albuquerque on April 2-3; and at a Midwest location yet to be determined on May 5-6.
The three-day level two seminar will cover the following topics: casino internal control - a risk-based focus; analysis of casino financial statistics; slots - inside the numbers; table games - inside the numbers; casino marketing - designing effective marketing programs; slot clubs; gaming technology; surveillance, security, and games protection; cashless wagering; and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
The level two seminars will be held at UNLV on March 8-10 and June 14-16.
The primary instructor for the seminars is industry veteran Jim Fox, a certified internal auditor and fraud examiner. Fox is the director of Las Vegas operations for Jefferson Wells International and has more than 20 years of experience in the internal audit profession. He co-authored "Casino Operations Management" and is a faculty member at UNLV, where he teaches auditing in the gaming industry. Most recently, he served as vice president of internal audit for the MGM Mirage.
The seminars range in price from $675 for the level one seminars to $975 for the level two seminars. Discounts are available to participants who register by the early bird deadline.
