Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, considered by many to be the founder of the hospice movement as well as the preeminent expert on issues regarding death and dying, will speak publicly for the first time in five years Oct. 24 at UNLV.
Her presentation will be one of a series of lectures in October sponsored by the UNLV Bigelow Chair of Consciousness Studies.
Michael Sabom, a practicing cardiologist from Atlanta, will share his research on neardeath experiences 7-9 p.m., Oct. 6, in the Flora Dungan Humanities Building, Room 109. Sabom has written two books, Recollections of Death and Light and Death, both of which recount the near-death experiences of his patients.
On Oct. 24, Kubler-Ross will deliver her presentation on death and dying in Artemus W. Ham Hall from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The author of On Death and Dying, Kubler-Ross has written nine books dealing with the natural phenomenon of dying.
The founder and director of the hospice Shanti Nilaya in Escondido, Calif., Kubler-Ross has received more than 25 honorary doctorates from various universities and colleges in the U.S. and has received the Modern Samaritan Award and the Ideal Citizen Award.
George Anderson, a psychic medium, will be the final lecturer scheduled for October. The author of Surrounding the Light, Anderson is a grief counselor from Long Island, N.Y., who specializes in helping parents contact lost children. His presentation is scheduled for 7-9 p.m., Oct. 28, in Artemus Ham Hall.
