The Schools of Nursing, Allied Health, Community Health Sciences and Dental Medicine will host the second annual Division of Health Sciences Interdisciplinary Research Scholarship Day, April 16 in the UNLV Student Union Ballroom.
The event showcases research within the Division of Health Sciences and serves as a springboard for interdisciplinary research collaborations among faculty within the division and the university. Nearly 70 faculty and student posters will be on display, covering a broad spectrum of health sciences research. Just a few of the projects on display include:
o Insight into muscle activity during deep water running
o Targeted opening of the blood-brain barrier by photochemical internalization
o Multigenerational commodity food use among American Indians
o Risk of pre-natal depression: differences by race
o Association between BMI and oral health in local high school students
o How obesity affects postural balance and limits of stability
o Economic impact of Nevada's Clean Indoor Air Act in Clark County

Dr. Jerry Reeves, director of locally based Health Insight and the Health Services Coalition of Southern Nevada, will present the keynote address on organizing, developing and collaborating among interdisciplinary teams at 12:30 p.m. Reeves is board certified in pediatrics, pediatric hematology-oncology, and medical management. He is also the current chair and coordinator of iDO, an organization that promotes, tracks and improves results of diabetes screening, prevention and control interventions for Southern Nevadans with, or at high risk for, diabetes and obesity.
