Four UNLV department of public safety police officers have received promotions, according to Jose Elique, director and chief of police for the department.
Police Sgt. Rochelle Sax, an 18-year veteran of the department, was promoted to police lieutenant. A UNLV alumna with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Sax is the first female in UNLV's police department to be promoted to the supervisory ranks of sergeant and lieutenant. Her area of specialty is crime prevention.
Police Officer Jeff Green, who has served three years with the department, was promoted to the position of sergeant. Before coming to UNLV, Green worked 18 years with the U.S. Air Force as a technical sergeant. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the Salvation Army as a counselor and as a CAT bus driver. Green holds an associate's degree in social science and is a certified substance abuse counselor.
Officer Preston Perrenot, who has worked as a police officer for the UNLV department for the past 11 years, was promoted to the rank of detective. He holds an associate's degree in criminal justice and is a graduate of the California POST Basic Investigators School. Previously, he worked for the North Las Vegas Police Department and served as an officer in the Civil Air Patrol.
Officer Kevin Youngflesh was also promoted to the rank of detective. Youngflesh was hired in 1998 as a UNLV reserve police officer and became a full-time officer in 1999. He holds a master's degree in adult education and a bachelor's degree in law enforcement. Prior to joining UNLV's department of public safety, he worked as a deputy sheriff in Oregon for the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and as a police officer for the North Las Vegas Police Department.
"These promotions will continue to expand the public safety department's efforts to provide the UNLV community with the highest level of law enforcement and public safety service in its history," Elique said.
