The UNLV College of Fine Arts now offers a new degree program for students wishing to pursue a career in the arts within a broad context. The BA in Creative Practice will offer dedicated course studies in arts leadership, management, and entrepreneurship.
“This program is designed with a contemporary vision towards redefining how we think about and practice the Creative Arts,” said Nancy Uscher, dean of the college. “Our future arts leaders must be innovative thinkers who are well versed in not only the arts, but also in other areas such as business, philanthropy, entrepreneurship, diversity/equity/inclusion, and global strategy. They must be proactive in the creation of interdisciplinary intersections that are at the forefront of societal change.
“Creative individuals approach problem solving with innovative thinking and they display the ability to connect and engage with broad audiences. They will be competitive in the workplace as creative problem-solvers across professional sectors ”
Possible career paths for the BA in Creative Practice degree include arts leaders, development director, special events coordinator, exhibition planner, financial manager, volunteer coordinator, box office manager, community and corporate relations manager, community advocacy, and many more.
“The demand for creative people with entrepreneurial and administrative skills is on the rise,” said program director Stacy Shapin. “Organizations in a wide array of fields are looking for leaders who can think differently, integrate knowledge across disciplines, spot and solve problems, and generate new ideas.”
