The UNLV Classical Guitar Series welcomes Carlos Bonell & Christopher McGuire at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 21 in the Doc Rando Recital Hall of the Beam Music Center on the UNLV campus.
Celebrated for a distinguished career that includes TV, film and CD recordings, worldwide tours, and concertos with major orchestras, Bonell can be heard on the sound tracks of Hollywood films "City of Angels" and "The Honest Courtesan" and on the BBC TV productions "Inspector Morse" and "The Politician's Wife." Born in London of Spanish parents, Bonell studied at the Royal College of Music where he was appointed its youngest ever professor in 1972. He gained prominence in 1981 through his recording of "Concierto de Aranjuez" with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Charles Dutoit. It was hailed as a "magnificent triumph" by Classical Music Magazine, UK, and awarded a coveted rosette by the Penguin CD guide.
Christopher McGuire has performed hundreds of formal solo concerts in the U.S., Mexico, Japan, Venezuela, and Spain. He has been a guest artist with orchestras and chamber ensembles and also composes for his music group, D'Accord. He has performed more than 1500 informal performances in schools and other community venues for the Dallas Classic Guitar Society, Fort Worth Classic Guitar Society, Young Audiences and in cities throughout North America, Spain and Japan.
