The Barrick Lecture Series presents nationally and internationally renowned speakers through a generous grant from philanthropist Marjorie Barrick.

Captain Scott Kelly laid the groundwork for the future of space travel and exploration with his record-breaking year in space. On the historic mission that spanned from March 2015 to March 2016, Kelly conducted experiments, reconfigured station modules and provided new photos from the International Space Station. The mission also included NASA’s groundbreaking Twins Study where his identical twin brother, retired NASA astronaut Mark Kelly, served as the control model on the Earth to understand how space affects the human body.

In his return to Planet Earth Kelly is sharing personal stories that demonstrate the value in pushing one’s own limitations, the necessities of both leadership and teamwork for facing demanding conditions and insight on the challenges of long term deprivation from loved ones and our planet.

Prior to his 20 year career as a NASA astronaut, Kelly proudly served 25 years in the U.S. Navy as an experienced aviator and a decorated captain.

The lecture is free and open to the public but tickets are required for entry. Tickets are limited to two per person and can be obtained from the Performing Arts Center box office beginning:

• Wednesday, Sep. 7 at 10 a.m. for UNLV faculty, staff, and students.
• Saturday, Sep. 10 at 10 a.m. for the general public
