The Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» (UNLV) today announced the three finalists in the search for its next executive vice president and provost. The successful candidate will report directly to UNLV President David B. Ashley and serve interchangeably with him in the capacity of chief academic and chief administrative officer.
In alphabetical order by last name, the finalists are:
o Gerardo M. Gonzalez, Ph.D.
University Dean, School of Education, Indiana University
o Stephen Lehmkuhle, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, University of Missouri
o Neal J. Smatresk, Ph.D.
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, University of Hawaii at Monoa
Each finalist will visit the UNLV campus independently over the next two weeks for a three-day series of meetings with university administration, faculty, staff and students. The recruitment and screening committee will review feedback from each meeting and will summarize the strengths of each candidate for UNLV President David Ashley, who will make the final selection.
The university community is encouraged to attend open forums, which will include question-and-answer sessions with each finalist. The forums will be held in the Barrick Museum at the following times: Neal J. Smatresk, Ph.D., January 22, 2007, from 10:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.; Gerardo M. Gonzalez, Ph.D., January 24, 2007, from 1 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.; Stephen Lehmkuhle, Ph.D, February 2, 2007, from 10:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
As chief academic officer for the university, the executive vice president and provost oversees and aligns academic and budgetary policy and priorities, ensures the quality of the faculty and student body, helps to expand the research enterprise and maintains the educational excellence of the institution.
