UNLV novelist and professor Douglas Unger will give his first on-campus reading in five years on Feb. 1 as part of the University Forum lecture series.
Unger, whose first book, Leaving the Land, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, is the author of four novels, including his latest,Voices from Silence. At the Feb. 1 event, he will read his long story, Cuban Nights, just published in The Idaho Review. Other stories from his recent work have appeared in Colorado Review, or are forthcoming in Ontario Review, Southwest Review, and in various publications.
An English professor at UNLV since 1991, Unger teaches classes in modern and contemporary literature for graduate and undergraduate students and conducts workshops on creative writing. He oversees the curriculum development for the international master of fine arts in creative writing degree program.
The lecture is set for 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public.
