"Underground Filmmaking in China" will be the topic of an upcoming University Forum lecture at UNLV, the first of the fall 2004 lectures series.
During the lecture, Paul Pickowicz, professor of history at the University of California, San Diego, will provide an analysis of underground documentary and feature films in China. He will discuss topics not treated in Chinese state-run film productions, including gay sexuality, prostitution, drug addiction, and poor migrant laborers.
The lecture will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public. No reservations are required.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by UNLV's College of Liberal Arts and is underwritten by The Jerry Kalafatis Lodge Charitable Foundation and the UNLV Foundation. Additional support was provided by UNLV's Asian Studies Center and CSUN.
