The harm caused by "hate speech" will be the topic of the next University Forum lecture which is set for March 7.
Joan Callahan, a philosophy professor and director of women's studies at the University of Kentucky, will discuss "Sanctioning Speech That Harms: An Immodest Proposal." She will argue that hate speech, which is typically directed at members of ethnic and sexual minority groups, normalizes injustice and is substantially harmful.
On March 23, Brad Eden, head of the cataloging section at UNLV's library, will present "The Life and Work of J.R.R. Tolkien: Professor, Linguist, Writer, Creator of Fantasy."
In his lecture, Eden will introduce the audience to the life, work, and writings of Tolkien Books, posters, and memorabilia will be exhibited during the lecture.
