A new director has been hired for UNLV's Cannon Center for Survey Research.
Thomas Lamatsch, who has a variety of experience developing and conducting polls and studies, began work at the university earlier this month. He also will serve as an assistant professor of political science.
Lamatsch earned a doctoral degree in political science from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, where he also earned a master's degree in political science and survey research. His undergraduate degrees were earned at the University of Stuttgart in Germany.
Among his past projects are a number of studies on underage drinking for Mathematica Policy Research Inc. and a survey involving Republican political candidates in Connecticut for the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research.
UNLV's Cannon Center for Survey Research has a state-of-the-art CATI (Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing) Lab with 15 stations. Plans call for the number of stations to be doubled in the near future.
Center staff conduct all phases of telephone, mail, and in-person surveys for local, state, and national clients both in the academic and market research fields. Recently, the center acquired the technology to conduct CAPI (Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing) Surveys.
Additionally, the center serves as a training facility for UNLV graduate and undergraduate students seeking to gain experience in research design.
