The Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» (UNLV) has a long-standing, zero-tolerance policy toward any behavior that could impact the well-being of people attending its athletic events. The action of a spectator who tossed an object from the plaza level of the Thomas and Mack Center during Wednesday night's basketball game, injuring an usher, was met with an immediate response from UNLV police.
"The individual involved in Wednesday night's incident was immediately arrested, removed from the arena and charged with battery," said Jose Elique, UNLV chief of police. "While these types of spontaneous criminal acts are isolated, in keeping with established policy, UNLV police will continue to promptly arrest and recommend the most-severe prosecution of individuals engaged in this unacceptable type of activity."
"We find this type of behavior reprehensible and not representative of UNLV fans," said Mike Hamrick, UNLV director of intercollegiate athletics. "On behalf of the university, we reached out to the Mountain West Conference and the University of Utah to express our concerns about this despicable act and reinforce our zero-tolerance policy toward inappropriate fan behavior."
