Interested in starting a green business? Then consider attending the Environmental Business Opportunities conference, set for Dec. 9, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies on the UNLV campus.
Conference speakers will describe characteristics and trends in the environmental industry, focusing on opportunities in waste management, solar energy, commercializing environmental technology developed at local universities, and exporting environmental products.
They will also reveal potential environmental business funding sources.
The conference will open with an address from U.S. Sen. Harry Reid or his designee. Speakers will include business owners, government officials, and academicians with expertise in the environmental industry.
Presentations will be made by John Cavness, president of the Environmental Information Association and vice-president of VAC Asbestos Services, Inc.; Tom Gutherie, president of the Southern Nevada Certified Development Corp.; Fred Couzens, rural director of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development; and Jim Seiber, director of the Center for Environmental Sciences and Engineering at UNR.
The conference is sponsored by the Environmental Finance Center, Region 9, a university-based center providing expertise on environmental financing and economic issues, the Las Vegas Nevada Small Business Development Center, and the Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies at UNLV.
