The spring semester University Forum Lecture Series will begin Jan. 26 with a presentation on the topic "The Ozone Hole, The Greenhouse Effect, and Global Warming: A Scientific and Political Controversy."
John Farley, a UNLV physics professor, will discuss many of the questions surrounding these three environmental effects, such as whether they are the result of manmade or natural variations. He also will talk about how serious the consequences of these effects are likely to be. Farley will explain how this controversial topic is pitting industrial groups against environmentalists over the issues of scientific evidence, economic interests, and ideology.
On Jan. 29, the University Forum lecture topic will focus on "Achieving Sexual Health in Relationships."
Dr. Gerald R. Weeks, a professor and chair of UNLV's department of counseling, will discuss ways in which couples can prevent, or deal with, sexual problems that might occur in their relationships. Members of the audience will have an opportunity to ask questions or to submit questions anonymously.
Both lectures are set for 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and is underwritten by the UNLV Foundation. For more information on the series, call 895-3401 or send an E-mail to: forum@nevada.edu.
