Approximately 100 openings are still available in the National Youth Sports Program now taking place at UNLV.
The program, designed for economically disadvantaged youngsters ages 10 through 16, includes instruction in a variety of sports. It also focuses on math and science, strategies intended to prevent alcohol and drug abuse, health and career education, job responsibilities, and higher education.
The program is free to participants who meet income guidelines set by the federal government. Free lunches and transportation are provided.
A physical exam is mandatory. Free exams and registration will take place 1-4 p.m. Tuesday (June 12) in the Thomas & Mack Center parking lot west of the Eugene Warner Building. Interested youngsters, who must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, should look for the Clinic on Wheels (COW) bus in the parking lot.
