School of music professor Jonathan Rhodes Lee performs Book 1 of J.S. Bach's masterful Well-Tempered Clavier at 5 p.m. on January 29 in the Rando-Grillot Recital Hall of the Beam Music Center. Composed in 1722, this collection of preludes and fugues is one of the great artistic and intellectual accomplishments of European history. The first collection to use all of the major and minor keys, the Well-Tempered Clavier provides a compendium of the expressive and technical possibilities of keyboard music in the mid-18th century.
