The UNLV Performing Arts Center presents the ultimate Valentine's Day event when it welcomes the Russian National Ballet performing "Sleeping Beauty" at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14 as part of the Charles Vanda Master Series. The ballet returns to perform this masterpiece by Russian choreographer Marius Petipa - a grand, yet amusing fairy tale that is an excellent escape from the daily grind into St. Valentine's Day bliss.
The Russian National Ballet was founded in Moscow in the late 1980s, when many of the great dancers and choreographers of the Soviet Union's ballet institutions were exercising their new-found creative freedom by starting new, vibrant companies dedicated to the timeless tradition of classical Russian Ballet. The company, then titled the Soviet National Ballet, incorporated graduates from the great Russian choreographic schools of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Perrn. Today, the Russian National Ballet is its own institution, with more than 50 dancers of singular instruction and vast experience, many of whom have been with the company since its inception.
Tickets to the Russian National Ballet are $40, $55, and $85 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting pac.unlv.edu. Student rush tickets are $12.50 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. A $.50 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Information about all of the season's performances can be found on the Performing Arts Center website, located at <a href=".
