Gourmet cuisine, spirits, and... scholarships. They're all rolled into one grand affair called the World Gourmet Summit. UNLV's Harrah Hotel College will be among the many to benefit from the second annual event, to be held Nov. 15-20. Ten scholarships are set to be awarded to faculty members at a special dinner highlighting the five-day food and wine extravaganza. In addition, cuisine aficionados will have the opportunity to hear from top food and beverage executives from five continents and meet internationally renowned master chefs and celebrity wine makers. All events are open to the public.
This World Gourmet Summit features master classes on cuisine, wine, port and single malt beverages, gourmet dinners and a two-day international wine exhibition. More than 80 wineries will present 300 different types of wines. The five-day event will showcase trends in the global gourmet food and wine market. Celebrated chef and television host Martin Yan, who has hosted more than 2,000 cooking shows broadcast world-wide, is among a dozen chefs who will be cooking up gourmet cuisine during the events.
On Saturday, Nov. 19, The International Food and Beverage Forum will award ten scholarships to faculty in UNLV's Department of Food and Beverage Management during the UNLV Awards Dinner. This funding will assist faculty in improving their teaching endeavors and create a better academic environment for students through research materials and new programs. For the first time, the World Gourmet Summit and the International Food and Beverage Forum are helping the Food and Beverage Management department with faculty funding raised at the events.
"The $40,000 in faculty scholarships provided by the World Gourmet Summit will allow our faculty to pursue endeavors such as whisky distillation research, acquire research materials focusing on cultural differences in non-verbal communication, and assess the feasibility of an applied sensory science and consumer testing certificate program," said Andrew Hale Feinstein, chairman of the Department of Food and Beverage Management.
The World Gourmet Summit is an event of the World Gourmet Club and the International Food and Beverage Forum in association with the St. Moritz Gourmet Festival, the Masters of Australian Food and Wine and the Grand Gourmet Festival Dubai.
