Today's communications revolution will be put in perspective during an Oct. 9 lecture at UNLV by a scholar who will look back at a similar revolution that occurred at the time the printing press was invented.
"Reflections on the Gutenberg Revolution" will be the topic of the presentation by University of Houston professor John H. Lienhard. Part of the University Forum lecture series, the talk is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. It is free and open to the public.
Lienhard, a professor of mechanical engineering and of history, maintains that the invention of the printing press was not the beginning of the Renaissance, but instead was the adopted child of a revolution already underway.
Just as that revolution moved in unexpected ways, so is today's communications revolution taking some unanticipated turns, according to Lienhard.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts.
