The UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum is pleased to present PAINTED PICTURES, an exhibition of more than 200 framed original photographs by famed actor/director/comedian/singer/philanthropist, Jerry Lewis. The legacy of Lewis in undeniable in the history of film and entertainment; his influence has been multi-generational. An avid and obsessive photographer throughout his life, Lewis created this unique body of work during the 1950s, '60s, and '70s.
"The photographs are as engaging and contemporary as any photographic work that might be created today" explains the exhibition curator Michele C. Quinn, MCQ Fine Art. Known to always have a camera by his side, his knowledge and use of the camera as a vehicle for expression is notably extraordinary. It is the strength of these works that allows this multi-talented entertainer to add the title of "artist/photographer."
As a complement to this extraordinary event, the Barrick Museum hosts the Jerry Lewis Film Festival. The museum will present weekly screenings of films by Lewis. The Nutty Professor, commemorating the 50th Anniversary Blu-ray release, will kick-off the Festival on Thurs., May 15 at 6 p.m. in the UNLV Barrick Museum Auditorium. Each week a different film will be viewed, the full schedule to be announced separately. A retrospective of original film posters that document the history of the more than 50 films by Lewis, will also be on view. The films are free to the public. Popcorn and light refreshments will be available.

The UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum, a public arts unit under the UNLV Department of Art and the College of Fine Arts, strives to provide a welcoming environment in which students, members of the University community, southern Nevada residents and the public in general can study and learn by directly experiencing works of art. Our goal is to enhance the visitor's understanding of art as an enduring human endeavor and to promote visual literacy for all patrons. To this end, the Museum acquires, exhibits, interprets and preserves works of art representative of past and present cultures, and artistic creativity.
