A special exhibit of photos of former first lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis taken by internationally renowned New York photographer Jacques Lowe will be on display at UNLV's Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery from June 30 through July 6.
Titled Jackie Kennedy: The First Lady / A Photographic Salute, the exhibit will feature a number of powerful and poignant images of her, which were taken by Lowe between 1961 and 1963 and depict her in scenes both public and private, according to Jerry Schefcik, director of the gallery.
The exhibit was created by Lowe soon after Jackie Kennedy's death in May 1994 of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Lowe - who gained fame for documenting the John F. Kennedy senatorial and presidential years - chose his best work to include in the exhibit and arranged for proceeds from the exhibit to benefit The Leukemia Society of America (now known as The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Inc.).
Lowe's works from that original exhibit, which appeared at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, will be at UNLV as part of a summer-long national tour being sponsored by Northern Trust Bank.
"These beautiful photos of Jackie Kennedy capture her charm, passion, and timeless elegance, as well as the intimacy of her private life as both a wife and a mother," said Pamela Newell, vice president of private client services of Northern Trust in Nevada. Northern Trust is one of the country's leading providers of trust and asset management services.
The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will appear in the Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery located in the Alta Ham Fine Arts building. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. year-round except for holidays.
