The UNLV Performing Arts Center opens its signature series with Hiromi: The Trio Project at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. Hiromi describes her performance as: "Some elements of classical music, ... some rock, ... some jazz." She leads the Trio Project with contrabass guitarist Anthony Jackson (Steely Dan, Paul Simon, Michel Camilo, The O’Jays, Chick Corea) and drummer Simon Phillips (Toto, The Who, Judas Priest, David Gilmour, Jack Bruce). Their recent CD Spark reached #1 on the Billboard jazz albums chart.
Japan has produced an impressive assemblage of jazz pianists, from Toshiko Akiyoshi and Makoto Ozone to Junko Onishi. Pianist/composer Hiromi is the latest in that line of amazing musicians. Ever since the 2003 release of her debut Telarc CD, Another Mind, Hiromi has electrified audiences and critics east and west, with a creative energy that encompasses and eclipses the boundaries of jazz, classical, and pop parameters, taking improvisation and composition to new heights of complexity and sophistication.
“I don't want to put a name on my music. Other people can put a name on what I do. It’s just the union of what I've been listening to and what I've been learning. It has some elements of classical music, it has some rock, it has some jazz, but I don't want to give it a name," said Hiromi.
Tickets
Tickets to Hiromi: The Trio Project are $55, $40, $30, $20, and can be purchased through the or by calling 702-895-ARTS (2787). Student rush tickets are $15 each (not inclusive of the facilities fee) and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student ID. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available.
A $1.50 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The UNLV Performing Arts Center is Southern Nevada's first home for the arts: it opened in 1976 and celebrates its 41st season this year. It hosts a variety of performances and events and is home to productions presented by the Nevada Conservatory Theatre, UNLV School of Music, UNLV Dance, Desert Chorale, and the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society. The UNLV PAC also is pleased to host various Clark County School District fine arts festivals and concerts.
