Excellent students of African heritage will be honored May 6 at the 16th annual Outstanding Student Awards Banquet hosted by the UNLV Alliance of Professionals of African Heritage.
The event, which is open to the public, will take place at 4 p.m. in the ballroom of the Moyer Student Union. Tickets ar $15.
Ervine M. Crawford clinical associate professor in the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration, will be the keynote speaker. Serving as master of ceremonies will be Rainier Spencer, assistant professor of anthropology.
During the banquet, outstanding students of African heritage will be recognized. Eligible for recognition are undergraduate students with grade point averages of 3.0 or higher and graduate students with averages of 3.5 or higher.
Two scholarships will be awarded during the event. The Thomas Wilson Community Service Award is based on outstanding community service. The Roosevelt Fitzgerald Outstanding Student Award is based on academic achievement.
