The UNLV department of anthropology presents a talk with primatologist and conservationist Birute Mary Galdikas, Ph.D., president and co-founder of Orangutan Foundation International located in Los Angeles. She will discuss preserving orangutans and the tropical rainforests of Borneo. An Indonesian citizen, Galdikas is a well-known authority on orangutans, having documented the behavior of the endangered species for more than 25 years.
Galdikas is an outspoken advocate of preserving the orangutan's natural habitat and defends them against loggers and poachers. She is a professor at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia and Universitas Nasional in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Galdikas is the author of several books including "Reflections of Eden, My Years With the Orangutans of Borneo," and "Great Ape Odyssey." She has written articles for National Geographic and the New York Times.
