The husband and wife photography team of Wayne and Geri Kodey will present "Down the Colorado and Bypassed Byways," their views of the Grand Canyon and the living remains of Route 66 from May 8 through August 28 at the Marjorie Barrick Museum.
Geri, UNLV Photo Services manager, will show her work from a river rafting expedition into the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River. She presents stunning images of the Canyon from water level and land locations only accessible from the river. Included are wide aspects of the canyon from the Toroweap Overlook and photographs of plants and desert bighorn sheep from the north and south rims.
Wayne has made a personal project of photographing the stretch of Route 66 through northern Arizona and the buildings and people who remained after the opening of Interstate 40, which bypassed the old national highway. Wayne began his project in the late 1980s as a staff photographer at the Las Vegas Review-Journal and has continued since his retirement in 1995.
The Kodey's, who own Casey's Cameras in Las Vegas, also teach two photography courses and lead photography field trips for the UNLV Educational Outreach program. The exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information, please call (702) 895-3381.
