The Nevada Conservatory Theatre is pleased to present Jean Anouil's Ring Round the Moon, adapted by Christopher Fry, Oct. 8-17 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. Kymberly Mellen directs this production that welcomes the return of in-person audiences to UNLV theatre performances.
Set in Paris before World War I, this delightfully witty farce takes place in the winter garden of a palatial estate owned by the incorrigible Madame Demortes, aunt to the roguishly charming Hugo. Ever cynical about love, Hugo suspects that his lovesick and emotionally sensitive twin brother, Frederic, is engaged to the wrong woman — the wealthy and seemingly indifferent Diana. Hugo schemes to turn Frederic’s head from Diane to a new conquest - the breathtakingly innocent and enchanting dancer, Isabelle. Mistaken identities, unrequited love, reunited school chums, and a whole pot of noodles with no butter or salt add flavor to this quick-paced romantic comedy that will delight the entire family.
Kymberly Mellen is an assistant professor of acting in the department of theatre and NCT, having previously taught at The Theatre School at DePaul University, The University of Wisconsin – Whitewater, and BYU. In addition to numerous films, commercials, industrials, voice-overs, and narrated books, Mellen has performed and directed at many Regional Theatres. A two-time Chicago Jeff Award winner, she is a member of Actors Equity, SAG-AFTRA, and the Society of Directors and Choreographers.
"We are so excited to welcome back our in-person audiences," said Norma Saldivar, chair of the department of theatre. "The season we have prepared is a joyous celebration of theatre and we invite each of our patrons to once again enjoy the full theatre-going experience."
The cast includes Luke Halferty as Frederic/Hugo, Carmen Maher as Isabelle, Frannie Maas as Diana, Sarah-Lucy Hill as Lady India, Kevin Stevens as Patrice, Skylar Schock as Madame Desmortes, Jenn Chandler as Capulet, Deseree Whitt as Mother, Ryan Ruckman as Messerchmann, Rege Lewis as Romainville, and Greg Prusiewicz as Joshua.
