The Nevada Conservatory Theatre is thrilled to present Little Shop of Horrors, book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken, Dec. 3-12 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. Keenon Hooks directs this sci-fi smash musical based on the film by Roger Corman, and screenplay by Charles Griffith.
In this homage to B movies, the creative team behind beloved Disney classics such as The Little Mermaid and Aladdin give us the story of Seymour, a meek flower shop assistant who pines for his co-worker Audrey. Seymour is thrilled to discover a mysterious plant, but when that plant turns out to feed on blood and crave world domination, things (literally) get messy. This devious, delicious musical will provide creepy fun for the whole family.
Hooks is Co-Founder and Dance Director of Studio Collective Performing Arts in Westlake Village, Ca. He takes pride in education and serving the next generation of theatre artists. A graduate of Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, his work has been seen around the west coast with companies like Musical Theatre West, 5-Star Theatricals, PCPA-Pacific Conservatory Theatre, Oregon Cabaret Theatre, and the Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival. Proud member of both AEA and SDC, he couldn't be happier for theatre to at last be returning for so many after a year and a half away.
"We are so excited to welcome back our in-person audiences," said Norma Saldivar, chair of the department of theatre. "This production continues a season of joyous celebration of theatre and we invite each of our patrons to once again enjoy the full theatre-going experience."
The cast includes Heather Renner as Audrey; Maurice-Aime Green as Seymour; Greg Prusiewicz as Mushnik; Gary Fowler as Audrey II; Luke Halferty as Orin/Ensemble; and Saydra Starks, Deseree Whitt, and Devon Williams as Urchins.
