The Nevada Conservatory Theatre (NCT) is pleased to present William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar March 9-25 in UNLV's Black Box Theatre. Beth Lopes directs.
Is Julius Caesar a just leader or a power-hungry tyrant? A faction of loyal Romans fear that Caesar’s ambition for power will lead him to despotism. Making the ultimate sacrifice for their country, they decide that Caesar must die, setting into motion a series of events that threaten the democratic society they sought to protect. Shakespeare’s searing political thriller asks us to confront difficult questions that are as relevant today as they were in 1599: What is the line between democratic leader and tyrant? Can an act of violence ever protect civilized society? Lopes’ startlingly modern, all-female production of this classic tragedy asks us to investigate the tenuous relationship between true democracy and unbridled political power.
The cast includes Tola Lawal as Caesar/Octavius; Alexis Hudson as Brutus; Christina Harvey as Lucius/3rd Citizen; Breanna McCullum as Antony; Tiana Jones as Flavius/Ligarius/Poet; Alexandra Ralph as Cassius; Ruliko Cronin as Soothsayers/Calpurnia/Lepidus/2nd Citizen; Isabella Rooks as Casca; Sarah Rice as Marullis/Porta/4th Citizen/Pindarus; and Gabrielle Silveroli as Metellus/1st Citizen.
The production and design team includes scenic designer Jesse Soper, lighting designer John Wamper, sound designer Kahlia Silva, costume designer Katie Dennis, props master Robert Acosta, technical director Brian Smallwood, dramaturg Lezlie Cross, and production stage manager Shelly Lewis.
