The Nevada Conservatory Theatre presents The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee -- written by Rachel Sheinkin and music by William Finn -- May 1-10 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. Tim Bennett directs. Chris Lash is musical director.
An eclectic group of six vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the teens spell their way through a series of words hoping to never hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life-unaffirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter, one speller leaves. At least the losers get a juice box.
