Registration for the National Youth Academic Sports Program will begin Saturday.
In its 28th year at UNLV, the program offers a variety of summer activities to disadvantaged youngsters whose parents or guardians meet income guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Human Services. In addition to sports such as swimming, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and soccer, the program includes activities designed to promote interest in careers and discourage drug and alcohol use.
This free program, which will take place June 9-July 12, is federally funded. It includes free lunches and free transportation to the university each day.
Free medical examinations and registration will take place at the Community Health Center of Southern Nevada, 916 W. Owens Ave. Registration and medical examinations will take place on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon according to the following schedule:
* April 26, youngsters whose last names begin with the letters A-F.
* May 3, G-L
* May 10, M-R
* May 17, S-Z
* May 29, Open A parent or guardian must accompany each enrollee.
